Tampa is a Gulf Coast city in the U.S. state of Florida. The northern shore of Tampa Bay and the eastern shore of Old Tampa Bay form the city’s borders. The county seat of Hillsborough County and the largest city in the Tampa Bay area, Tampa is also the largest city in the Tampa Bay metropolitan area. According to the 2020 census, Tampa has a population of 384,959, making it the third-most populous city in Florida after Jacksonville and Miami and the 52nd most populous city in the United States.
With the establishment of Fort Brooke in the nineteenth century, Tampa served as a military hub. The bay’s port is the largest in the state, contributing over $15 billion to the state’s economy.
The city is part of the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area, which consists of four counties and approximately 3.1 million people, making it the second-largest metropolitan statistical area (MSA) in the state and the fourth-largest in the Southeastern United States, after Washington D.C., Miami, and Atlanta.
The Greater Tampa Bay area includes the Tampa and Sarasota metropolitan areas and has a population of more than 4 million people.
Healthcare in Tampa
Over 20 hospitals, four trauma centers, and multiple cancer treatment centers are located in Tampa and its surrounding suburbs. Additionally, Tampa is home to numerous health research institutions. Tampa General Hospital, St. Joseph’s Children’s & Women’s Hospital, James A. Haley Veterans Hospital, H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute, and the Pepin Heart Institute at Advent Health Hospital are among the major hospitals in Tampa. The headquarters of Shriners Hospitals for Children is in Tampa. Founded in 1987, Turning Point of Tampa focuses on behavioral health. In Tampa, the Byrd Alzheimer’s Institute at USF is both a prominent research facility and a center for Alzheimer’s patient care. Clearwater
Clearwater is a city in the Tampa Bay region of Florida that is known for its warm climate and beaches on the Gulf of Mexico. On a barrier island, Clearwater Beach is a three-mile stretch of white sand bordered by hotels and restaurants. Dolphins and sea turtles that have been injured are rehabilitated at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium.
St. Petersburg
St. Petersburg is located on Florida’s gulf coast and is part of the Tampa Bay metropolitan area. Largo
Largo is the third largest city in Pinellas County, Florida, United States, as well as the fourth largest in the Tampa Bay area. As of the 2010 Census, the city had a population of 77,648, up from 69,371 in 2000. Largo was first incorporated in 1905.
Lutz
Lutz is an unincorporated census-designated place in Hillsborough County, Florida, United States, 15 miles north of Tampa. The northern part of Lutz also makes up a portion of south Pasco County. The population was 23,707 according to the 2020 Census.
